ソビエト連邦を中心とした東側諸国の共産・社会主義陣営との対立が高まった。
お互いを仮想敵国としての軍備増強に拍車が掛かり、核保有国同士によるにらみ合いが続いたのである。
ICBMやSLBMが実用化されていなかった当時、敵対国の本土まで核爆弾を運び、投下することが出来る
戦略爆撃機が最も重要視されていた。それらを迎え撃つ戦闘機やミサイルの開発はもちろん、より優秀な
爆撃機の開発にお互い凌ぎを削ったのである。お互いを過剰に意識したことで、革新的な技術を用い、
奇想天外とも言えるようなアイデアも設計に盛り込んだ機体が次々に計画され、生まれては消えていった・・・。

During the Cold War era, tensions escalated between the Western bloc led by the United States and the Eastern bloc centered around the Soviet Union, following the end of World War II. Each side considered the other a potential enemy, fueling an arms race that included the standoff between nuclear powers.

At a time when ICBMs and SLBMs were not yet fully operational, strategic bombers capable of delivering nuclear bombs deep into enemy territory were considered vital. This prompted the parallel development of interceptors and missiles, as well as increasingly advanced bomber designs. Many innovative, and at times eccentric, concepts emerged—some saw the light of day, while others disappeared into history.

In Aircraft Model Special No.14, we shine a spotlight on Soviet strategic nuclear bombers developed during the Cold War.
