「第二次大戦最優秀戦闘機」とも称される『P-51マスタング』も、誕生当初から素晴らしい性能を示していたわけ
ではありませんでしたが、供与先であるイギリスへ渡ってからのロールスロイス・マーリンエンジンとの出会いが
「P-51マスタング」のその後の運命を決定づけました。
　1940年10月26日、このP-51の原型機であるNA-73が初飛行し、今年で75周年を迎えました。

What is the most powerful piston-engine fighter of all time? Many would say without hesitation: the P-51 Mustang. Often hailed as "the finest fighter of WWII," the P-51 didn’t show its full potential from the beginning. It was the pairing with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine in the UK that ultimately defined its legacy.
