スーパーイラストレーションNo.5 榛名
「榛名」は金剛型巡洋戦艦の3番艦で、主力艦としては初めて民間の神戸川崎造船所（現在の川崎重工）で建造されました。主砲は当時のイギリス海軍の主流であった34�冕い鮠絏鵑�36�冕い鮴こΔ能蕕瓩禿觝椶靴討い泙靴拭４粟�後は逐次の改装を受けて、昭和6（1931）年に姉妹艦と共に戦艦に類別されます。さらに昭和8（1933）年から行われた第二次改装では機関の換装に加え、砲戦能力の向上、対空、航空兵装の強化も行われました。同型艦「金剛」は英国ヴィッカース、「比叡」は横須賀海軍工廠、「霧島」は三菱長崎造船所がそれぞれ建造しています。金剛型4隻は太平洋戦争において最も活躍した戦艦クラスとなりました。『スーパーイラストレーションNo.5日本海軍戦艦 榛名』は、岡本好司氏が多くの資料や写真などから解明した部分を含め、考証を交えながら描き起こしたイラスト集です。

Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Haruna
The Haruna was the third vessel of the Kongō-class battlecruisers and the first major warship built by a private shipyard, Kobe Kawasaki Dockyard (now Kawasaki Heavy Industries). It was the first in the world to be equipped with 36 cm guns, surpassing the 34 cm guns that were standard in the Royal Navy at the time. After its completion, Haruna underwent several upgrades and was reclassified as a battleship along with its sister ships in 1931. A second major refurbishment between 1933 and 1934 enhanced its firepower, anti-aircraft capabilities, and aviation facilities.
Each Kongō-class ship was built at a different location: Kongō at Vickers in the UK, Hiei at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, and Kirishima at Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard. These four ships became the most active battleships of the Pacific War.
